Pavilions and Pineapples!

Well, pineapples and pavilions really! I have been planning the decorations for a friends wedding the last few weeks, and on the way back from viewing the reception venue we stopped at the Tickell Arms in the south Cambridgeshire village of Whittlesford.  I usually prefer to be on my own to draw, but it was a lovely day and we sat in the garden so I got my watercolours out. There is a pergola structure at the side of a small pond, and at the end of a little path under the pergola a big stone bowl on a pedestal with a lattice work fence behind.

The perspective in the sketch is all wrong, and we laughed as the lattice took on the appearance of a large stone pineapple!

A week or so later I was in Brighton wandering around the beautiful gardens at the Royal Pavilion. Plenty of real domes, pillars and pedestals here! Must be a stone pineapple somewhere! A bit of a challenge, but I managed a sketch of the entrance to the gardens!
